Welcome To The Dinghy Section

Sailing comes in oh so many forms. From mega cruise liners to stand on paddle boards. Nestled somewhere between a kayak and a yacht we have a whole class of craft called dinghies.

They can produce some of the most exciting sailing available. Or, provide a very relaxing experience. At Thurrock yacht club we try and create both experiences for members old and new.

With our skill building 'Bob about' sessions you will pick up valuable experience, new skills, and confidence in the various roles on a dinghy. Then put those new skills to the test on race days. A truly exhilarating yet friendly competition racing round a custom course is a great way to spend time on the water. A highly recommended experience for sailors of all experience levels. And a key feature of your membership here at the club.

For care givers and parents thinking of bringing your little ones along. Consider the practical skills they'll learn while sailing, water safety, water confidence, how to rig and maintain a sailing vessel. Then probably more importantly, think about the soft skills involved in such a sport.

Unlike other team sports, sailings very safety relays on everyone looking out for each other and helping each other. If you're to really make the most of the race events being able to operate as a strong until is paramount. And as you progress and eventual take charge of the boat you'll have to show great independent thinking and problem solving Skippering the boat means your say goes.
