The days are getting longer and very soon the smell of fresh anti fouling shall be permeating the air. Thoughts turn to racing. It is time for skippers and crews to come together.
If you are looking to collect some silverware this year, then consider signing up to the Team Scheme. It couldn't be easier! Salty old sea dogs can register your interest on the notice board in the traditional way.
Those of you who are more comfortable living in the digital age are invited to join our new crew matching website, Tendrr. It is FREE for you to use!
We have signed the club up for this year and all of our races are set up and ready to go.
All skippers have to do is log on to the site, register your boat and provide as much detail as you feel comfortable giving about your sailing experience. Over the course of the season, you sign your boat up for individual races (or "trips") and indicate the number of spare berths available.
Willing crew are able to register on the Tendrr site, and can apply for vacant places on "trips", which can the be accepted by the skipper.
One of the great things about Tendrr is that as well as bringing club members together, it also gives members the chance to experience sailing outside the club. They are providing crew matching facilities for Ramsgate Week and the RORC amongst others.
We hope it will also provide a great hook for bringing new members into the club, as anybody who registers on Tendrr can apply for crew on any boat.
In the RYA survey last year you told us that bridging the gap between skippers and crews was one of the things that you wanted us to improve. We have listened and we are trying something new. However it will only work if people use it. So please, give it a go, support your club, and if you have any questions please contact Murray James
